FLC Foundation Board announces new officers and directors

John Francis will serve as chairman of the Fort Lewis College Foundation for the coming year. Keith Newbold was tabbed as vice chair and Moni Grushkin will serve as secretary. Mel Owen will continue as treasurer of the institutionally related foundation.

The Board thanked Gene Bradley for his service as chair. Bradley has overseen continued growth of the FLC Foundation, provided leadership in the transition that expanded the fundraising capacity for the Foundation and College. He will continue his work with the Foundation by serving on the Board of Directors.

The Board welcomed four new directors, who were elected to three-year terms.

  • Darrin Church is president of Citizens Trust and Investment Company. A Durango native, Church brings more than 25 years in the bank and trust industry to the Board. 
  • Julie Levy Duvall is an FLC alumna who graduated in 2005. She is partner and chief operating officer for Parady Financial Group, a financial services company with offices in Durango and The Villages in Florida. Levy Duvall previously worked for BP American, has served two terms on the 9-R School Board, and has been active with numerous non-profits nationally.
  • Dr. Charles Carson, a retired engineer who was a professor at Purdue University and the University of New Mexico. He also served as Deputy Director of International Security Programs at Sandia National Laboratories. He recently completed a term on the Foundation Board representing FLC’s Professional Associates.
  • Barney Hinkle, a 1981 Fort Lewis College alumnus, is an advertising and marketing executive based in St. Louis, Missouri. Hinkle is vice president for business development for Marketing Arm, an Omnicom agency. Hinkle, who is in the FLC Athletic Hall of Fame, was coached by Bob Hofman during his time on FLC's basketball team.

The FLC Foundation, Inc. exists solely to encourage, receive, invest and administer private funds in support of Fort Lewis College. The Foundation manages $25 million in assets, and annually provides more than $2 million in scholarships and other special project support to the College. The Foundation philanthropically supports campus capital construction and improvements such as the Geosciences, Physics and Engineering Hall which is slated to open in Fall 2016.
