Fort Lewis College earns reaccreditation with Higher Learning Commission
After two years of work by the Fort Lewis College (FLC) and Durango communities, FLC has formally earned reaccreditation with the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). This means that FLC proved itself worthy of this nationally-recognized mark of quality and value. The next reaccreditation process for the College will be in 2025.
“Over 60 faculty, staff, students, and community members worked over the last two years on this effort,” says FLC Provost Barbara Morris. “I am proud of their collective work that led to this positive reaffirmation.”
Through its reaccreditation process, the HLC examined five areas of the College:
- Mission
- Integrity: Ethical and Responsible Conduct
- Teaching and Learning: Quality, Resources, and Support
- Teaching and Learning: Evaluation and Improvement
- Resources, Planning, and Institutional Effectiveness
Leading up to the visit by a group of HLC evaluators in October 2015, teams of FLC faculty, students, staff, and community members worked on each of the areas that would be reviewed. They assessed everything the College does and how well it does it. The job of the teams was to ensure that Fort Lewis College was meeting the high standards of the HLC.
With this reaffirmation of Fort Lewis College’s accreditation, the verdict was that the College is indeed offering its students a high quality educational experience. These accreditations are a mark of excellence that assure students and their families that they’re making a good investment in the school they choose to attend.
“I speak often to prospective students and their parents about the quality and value of an education at Fort Lewis College,” says FLC President Dene Thomas. “Reaccreditation from the Higher Learning Commission underscores these points. I am proud of our administration, faculty, staff, and students for the good work they have done. This was a team effort.”
