International artist visits campus to discuss proposed installation at Community Concert Hall

Internationally renowned artist Volkan Alkanoglu will visit Fort Lewis College on Monday, October 12. An anonymous donor is in discussions with Mr. Alkanoglu about installing his art on the southeastern wall of the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College.

While he is on campus, Mr. Alkanoglu will meet for lunch with President Thomas and members of the FLC Art Committee at 10:30 a.m. Immediately after, he will sit down with FLC art students at 11:30 a.m. in the Center of Southwest Studies Lyceum.

Mr. Alkanoglu’s day at Fort Lewis College will conclude meeting with staff at the Community Concert Hall at Fort Lewis College at 3:30 p.m.

The proposed art project is called “Reflection.”

Mr. Alkanoglu was born in Turkey before moving to Germany, where he studied at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin and the Peter Behrens School of Architecture in Düsseldorf. He received his master’s in architectural design from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College London.

His work has been shown all over the world, including the Royal Academy of Arts in London. In 2006, he was nominated for Young Architect of the Year in the United Kingdom.
