Native American Olympic gold medalist to speak at Fort Lewis College

The Fort Lewis College Native American Center Speaker Series welcomes Olympic gold medal winner Billy Mills to campus on Tuesday, April 5. In addition to meeting with FLC students, Mills will offer a public presentation in the Student Union Ballroom at 6 p.m. The event is free and open to everyone, though tickets are required. Ticket information can be found at www.durangoconcerts.com.

Mills (Oglala Lakota) shocked the world when he won a gold medal in the 10K during the 1964 Tokyo Olympic Games. Since then, the Marine Corps veteran co-founded the Running Strong for American Indian Youth organization, which serves to help American Indian young people find opportunities to help them get ahead in life. For his life’s achievements, Mills was awarded the Presidential Citizens Medal in 2012.

The FLC Native American Center Speaker Series is sponsored by the John & Sophie Ottens Foundation and the FLC Native American Center. For more information, contact Yvonne Bilinski at 970-247-7222.
