Skyhawk Athletics to honor Coach Hofman at February 12 home game

Fort Lewis College will celebrate the career of legendary basketball coach, Bob Hofman, on February 12 by naming the court in Whalen Gymnasium in his honor. FLC will recognize his accomplishments during a ceremony prior to the men’s basketball game vs. Western State Colorado University, which begins at 7:30 p.m.

The public is invited to attend a pre-game reception beginning at 4 p.m. in the Peidra Room of the FLC Student Union. Coach Hofman will speak at 4:45 p.m. and a brief program will conclude in time for all to adjourn to Whalen Gymnasium for a Skyhawk doubleheader.  Those wishing to attend should RSVP by calling 247-7080 or emailing Kim Schwartz at kaschwartz@fortlewis.edu

Hofman, who is serving as emeritus coach for FLC in his final season, is capping a career that has spanned nearly four decades of Colorado basketball as a player and coach.  In 19 years as head coach at FLC, Hofman owns every coaching record in the history of Skyhawk Men's Basketball: wins (359), winning percentage (.654), league wins (245), league winning percentage (.683), and most seasons as a head coach (19). During his tenure in Durango, Hofman's teams won three Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) regular season crowns, four RMAC postseason championships, six RMAC West Division titles, and earned seven NCAA Division II playoff berths. As a matter of RMAC basketball trivia: Hofman is the winningest coach in basketball history at both FLC and Western State Colorado University.

While his record speaks volumes about his skill at X’s and O’s, his true legacy is found in the lives of those who played for him.  In yet another celebration of a successful career on and off the court, alumni and friends have come together to establish the Bob Hofman Fund for Basketball Excellence at FLC.
