In this internet-driven age, it’s paramount for businesses to understand how to attract, convert, and retain customers through their social media platforms, websites, emails, online advertisements, and other digital marketing outlets. The School of Business Administration's new Digital Marketing Certificate program offers students and professionals the training they need to lead businesses through this challenging territory.
"The Digital Marketing Certificate program will provide the training necessary to work at agencies focused on digital marketing, as well as within internal departments at larger organizations that oversee digital marketing efforts," says Assistant Professor of Marketing Tomasz Miaskiewicz. "There has been extensive growth in demand for digital marketing skills. This certificate program will provide sufficient training to succeed – there is no need to attend graduate school for most digital marketing positions."
Although ideal for business majors and other traditional degree-seekers, this two-semester certificate program is also designed to boost the skills and resumes of working professionals and business owners. With these students in mind, required courses are offered after 5 p.m. in a hybrid format combining both online and classroom time, and elective classes focused on the creative, technical, or analytical side of digital marketing are scheduled for early mornings, lunchtimes, or evenings.
Coursework focuses on key digital marketing areas, like web design, search engine optimization, social media marketing, email marketing, online advertising, web analytics, and content marketing. As part of regular coursework, individuals will also earn a series of industry certifications and gain valuable experience with a variety of platforms and tools, including Facebook Analytics, Google Adwords, Google Analytics, and HubSpot Marketing.
"The digital marketing skills required by today’s employers do not reflect the courses that most marketing majors complete. The certificate program will directly address the skills that are required to land a high-paying marketing job," says Miaskiewicz. "The entire program will focus on experiential and applied learning. Through regular course activities, students will utilize the tools and technologies that are used by practitioners today, as well as apply the skills acquired through the courses in the context of hands-on projects and assignments."
