Career Profile: Most of Dr. Hoehlein’s professional experience over the past 30+ years has been centered on providing leadership for the development and delivery of adult continuing education programs to meet the needs of non-traditional college students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Administrative roles have included serving as Community Education Coordinator (East Lansing, MI, Public Schools, and Michigan State University), Director of Continuing Education (Tidewater Community College, Virginia), Director of the University of Virginia Hampton Roads Center, and Director of Adult Studies at Virginia Wesleyan College.
Instructional experiences have included teaching English and Social Studies at the middle school level and being an adjunct professor for teacher preparation and community education leadership programs at Michigan State University, Old Dominion University, and Norfolk State University.
Volunteer/Community Service: Have served as officer/board member for several professional associations (Virginia Adult Education Association, Virginia Community Education Association, National Council for Community Services and Continuing Education, National Coalition of Adult Education Organizations), as well as appointments to community non-profit boards and commissions related to advocacy and long-range planning for economic development, K12-college program articulation, vocational education, military education, aging/elderly concerns, and inter-agency community service projects.
Currently a board member for the Trappers Crossing Homeowners Association. Also participating in the planning process for the Lake Nighthorse Recreation Plan; and a member of the KSUT board of directors.
FLC Activities: Co-coordinator of Professional Associates Lifelong Learning lecture series; member, FLC Continuing Education Advisory Committee; Professional Associates liaison to the Continuing Education Program, and to the Office of International Programs..
Personal Interests: Golf, new age jazz, grandchildren, travel (Mexico, Canada, Puerto Rico, Spain, Portugal, most of continental U.S.), environmental stewardship, animal welfare, promoting civility in political discourse and decision-making.
