About Khara Wolf

Khara Wolf fell in love with music when she was first inspired by the magic of live performance and the power of music education. As an avid performer, she plays oboe and English horn with the San Juan Symphony and performs regularly with the Better Knot Ensembles, a Neo-Celtic duo and trio that she co-founded in 2014. In addition to being a regular guest artist with the Durango Celtic Festival, current projects also include working with 1700 and 1800 century instruments and bringing the modern oboe and English horn into Celtic music as a traditional instrument.

Khara graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder with a Bachelor of Music in Oboe Performance where she studied with Peter Cooper. Additional oboe instructors with whom she has studied include Martin Schuring, Barbara LaFitte, James Brody, and Ciara Glasheen-Artem.

As the Adjunct Professor of Double Reeds at Fort Lewis College, she is an instructor on oboe, bassoon, and woodwind ensembles. Khara runs several reed making classes each year and currently holds a private teaching studio in the Four Corners where she teaches oboe, bassoon, and flute. With over a decade of professional reed making, Khara specializes in hand-made oboe reeds suitable for high altitude and reed adjusting for difficult elevations and dry climate.
