Kari Deswood is Diné; she is Táabaah'á ( Water Edge Clan) and T'aaneeszahnii (the tangle people). Her maternal grandfather is T'aachinii (the red running into the water people), and her paternal grandfather is Ma'ii deeshgizhnii (the coyote pass people of the Jemez clan).
Deswood earned her undergraduate degree from Fort Lewis College (English Education) and her Master's degree (Educational Leadership) from the Pennsylvania State University. Kari received her doctoral studies from Colorado State University (Higher Ed. Leadership) and is working on her dissertation. She has spent the last 18 years as an educator, five years in public schools, and 13 years in higher education. Her academic and professional areas of interest are broadly in the field of social justice education and culturally responsive pedagogy.
Kari can usually be found walking her dogs (Jax and Henry), playing or watching tennis, and spending time with and traveling with her husband and daughter.
