About Dr. Tim Kopita
I am a broadly trained biologist interested in questions that span scales from molecular to ecological. Much of my research involves host-associated microbial communities, the bacterial and fungal life that exists in and on larger organisms and impacts their hosts’ health.
Amphibian skin microbes have been a particular focus of my research, as they play a role in defending the host against pathogens. I have been developing a probiotic bacterial treatment for the skin of boreal toads, a threatened species native to Colorado.
When not teaching or researching bacteria, I enjoy camping with my wife and daughter in the mountains.
