Candace Nadon-UGR Speaker Series

Title:  “How to Plan (and Solve) a Murder: The Research Process in Fiction Writing”

Join us on November 13 at 4:30 p.m. on the Main Stage of the FLC Theatre to hear Dr. Candace Nadon from the FLC Honors and Department of English discuss fiction writing, planning (and solving) a murder mystery!  Somewhere in the development of her novel-in-progress, Candace Nadon realized she was writing a feminist thriller with a murder at its heart — and had no idea how to write in the mystery/thriller genre, much less how to plan and solve a murder while developing theme and keeping the reader interested in the narrative. Enter research!  In this talk, Candace will discuss why research is an essential component of the creative process, what the research process looks like for writers, and how you can use “writerly research” techniques for your own creative projects.

The FLC Undergraduate Research Speaker Series allows students at all levels, staff, faculty, and the broader Durango community to hear research-related personal stories. The talks last ~40 minutes and are followed by Q&A, free food, and conversation.  Watch previous Speaker Series talks on our YouTube channel.
