Fort Lewis College has many policies that are designed to support faculty and staff in their efforts to balance work and personal life.

Flex Time
Employees may request flexible or alternative working hours to help them balance their work and personal life. Supervisors will consider all requests and grant them when they are compatible with college needs.

Family and Medical Leave
Fort Lewis College provides family and medical leave to eligible employees who need to take time off work to care for a sick family member, to care for a newborn or newly adopted child, or due to their own serious health conditions. Family and medical leave have specific policies for exempt staffclassified staff, and faculty.

Campbell Child and Family Center
The Campbell Child and Family Center is an on-campus facility that provides quality care and education for children ages one to five. Employees who are interested in more information on pricing or enrollment should contact the Center at 970-247-4679.

Lactation Rooms
Fort Lewis College faculty and staff who are nursing mothers and do not have a private office or access to a private space, have the option of using a private room on campus during business hours. Those wishing to use a private room may make arrangements in advance by contacting:

Family Benefits for Diverse Families
Faculty and exempt staff with half-time appointments or greater and all classified staff are eligible to enroll their partners and dependents in their healthcare insurance plan, dental insurance plan, vision insurance plan, and life insurance plan. Employees and their dependents are also eligible for free counseling sessions with a licensed professional through the Employee Assistance Program. Out of respect for diverse families, Fort Lewis College extends all of these benefits to both opposite-sex and same-sex partners of employees, as well as to the dependents of those partners. Tuition reduction
Tuition discounts are provided for benefited employees and employees’ dependents. Employees may take up to 8 hours of credits at FLC (per fiscal year) tuition free. Employees’ dependents receive 25% discount on in-state tuition if enrolled in 6 credit hours or more.

Western Graduate Exchange
Fort Lewis College participates in the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE), a program of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education (WICHE). Dependents of Fort Lewis College employees may enroll at one of more than 140 participating schools in the west and pay reduced tuition (150% of the resident rate). Participating states include Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, and Wyoming.
