Faculty and Administrative Professional Staff Benefits

Fort Lewis College is a member of the Colorado Higher Education Insurance Benefits Alliance (CHEIBA). CHEIBA membership includes a total of 8 colleges across the state of Colorado allowing us to pool our resources, have premium plan packages and share the experience ratings across a larger population.  Faculty and Administrative Professional (Exempt) Staff who are benefits eligible (.5 FTE and above) have eligibility for benefits to be effective on their first day of employment with the College.  OPEN ENROLLMENT is every November with changes taking effect for the following plan year on January 1st.

Faculty and Administrative Professional (Exempt) Staff must enroll in CHIEBA’s group health and dental insurance and are automatically enrolled in group term life insurance and long term disability benefits. (Medical coverage may only be waived with proof of other group medical coverage.) Automatic enrollment has proven to keep our costs lower for the entire group and continues to be a successful strategy in the overall CHEIBA strategic business plan.

If you have questions about any employee benefits at Fort Lewis College, please contact your benefits administrator in the Office of Human Resources.

Family Medical Leave

Before you can use Colorado Paid Family Leave it must be certified by Human Resources.

Colorado voters approved Proposition 118 in November of 2020, paving the way for a state-run Paid Family and Medical Leave Insurance (FAMLI) program. The FAMLI program will ensure all Colorado workers have access to paid leave in order to take care of themselves or their family during life circumstances that pull them away from their jobs — like growing their family or taking care of a loved one with a serious health condition.
