In hockey-crazy Durango, having a new game in town is always welcome. And Durango has zealously welcomed the squad from Fort Lewis College as it brought collegiate hockey to the town's home ice.
The 2013-14 season marks FLC Hockey's first season in the
American Collegiate Hockey Association. In the league, the Skyhawks play a 15-game schedule against teams from Colorado and New Mexico, including trips to Denver to challenge the Colorado School of Mines and the University of Colorado-Denver, to Albuquerque to face off against the University of New Mexico, and to Gunnison, Colorado, to take on nearby rival Western State Colorado University.
Home games are where the action is, though, with this season's Friday night games regularly packed with some 500 raucous hockey fans. This weekend, the Skyhawks take to their home ice for the last time this season, taking on Western State Colorado University at the
Chapman Hill Ice Arena Friday, February 7, at 7:30 p.m.; and Saturday, February 8, at 12:30 p.m.
