You could call it "the Corner of FLC & Main."
Actually, it's the corner of 8th Street and Main Avenue. But whatever you call it, the new Durango Welcome Center is also new downtown home of all things Fort Lewis College, bringing the best of campus to folks walking beautiful Durango's sidewalks.
The Durango Welcome Center is a service and contact center for people visiting Durango, and prominently features Fort Lewis College in murals, slide shows, interactive iPads, printed materials, and student greeters who can answer questions about and share their experiences at FLC. The Center will also offer transportation to daily campus tours, and sell tickets to performances at the Community Concert Hall.
"The Center will allow the College to capitalize on Durango’s significant tourist traffic," says Steve Schwartz, Vice President for Finance and Administration. "This downtown location will showcase the College's many and varied programs and cultural opportunities, as well as serve as a point of departure for campus tours."
The Center is a partnership between DATO, the Durango Business Improvement District, the FLC Department of Admission & Advising, and the Community Concert Hall. It gives visitors to town a one-stop shop where they can find information on nearly everything to do in town, from raft trips to restaurants to the train. Services available include restrooms, water, and electronic-device charging stations.
It's also where college-age kids and their families who already love Durango can find out about what Fort Lewis College has to offer, as well as a place for FLC alumni to check in, say hi, and catch up on what's going on at their alma mater.
"Moving into the new Durango Welcome Center creates a long-awaited presence directly on Main Avenue," says Community Concert Hall Director Charles Leslie. "Thanks to this partnership, we have a highly visible location that will get the word out about all the great things happening on campus and throughout the entire area."
