Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day activities at Fort Lewis College

DURANGO - The annual Fort Lewis College tradition of celebrating Dr. King’s legacy will be held on Monday, January 19, 2015. The community is invited to join in the day’s free activities.

The traditional peace and unity march will begin the celebration at 12:10 p.m. Those wishing to participate should gather at the Center of Southwest Studies. The march will wind through campus, ending at the Student Union where an open mic will be held and a choir performance will take place at 12:30 p.m. 

A number of workshops will comprise the Social Justice Festival beginning at 3:15 p.m. in the Student Union Ballroom. Workshops include Theater for Social Change, Protest Art, The Language of Protest, Mindful Communication, How to Build a Campaign, and Stencil Power.

The day will conclude with a showing of the movie “Broken Rainbow” and a keynote address from Fern Benally and Danny Blackgoat. The event will take place in Noble Hall, Rm. 130 at 6 p.m.
