The Fort Lewis College Foundation campaign to raise funding to purchase a river company is officially a success! The Foundation laid out a goal of raising $100,000 to go toward purchasing a river outfitter, including a $25,000 crowdfunding effort. The final tally came in at over $115,000.

With the fundraising goal met, the College will now move forward on negotiations to complete the purchase of the river company. The goal of this purchase is not to operate a commercial enterprise. Instead, the College is seeking the river permits and equipment that would come with the purchase. The permits would allow FLC students to access the Rio Chama and San Juan rivers in New Mexico and the Salt River in Arizona.

The permits would open up more of the remarkable outdoor learning and research laboratory this region offers to Fort Lewis College students. Students in programs from geology to anthropology to adventure education can enjoy the hands-on learning experiences that become possible through access to these rivers. From time to time, alumni and friends of the College may also be offered the chance to gather on the rivers for learning and enrichment opportunities.

Thank you to the many donors who helped push this idea farther down the road toward reality.
