Psychology professor Brian Burke publishes Abnormal Psychology textbook

Brian Burke and colleagues from Cardinal Stritch University, the Medical College of Wisconsin, and the University of South Florida recently published the second edition of their book Abnormal Psychology.

About the book

Abnormal Psychology is a cutting-edge survey of abnormal psychology that emphasizes prevention and focuses on the developmental roots of disorders and the use of causal models. The book also analyzes the controversies in the field, connections between different disorders, causal factors, treatment methods and outcomes. With a case study format and in-text learning aids, Abnormal Psychology reinforces critical analysis and learning and draws on the authors’ many years of teaching, research and clinical experience. The second edition has been updated to reflect current research, theories and applications.

Burke explains the book

“This textbook is interactive, engaging, student-friendly and less than half of the cost of the leading competitors’ textbooks, resulting in benefits to my students,” says Dr. Burke. “Moreover, FLC students had the opportunity to be involved in many aspects of the project, ranging from providing detailed feedback on the opening chapters (in my Spring 2014 Senior Seminar class) to editing (my Spring 2015 class used the pdf version of the book for free and received bonus points for finding and reporting errors) and even illustration (two students were credited in the book for educational comics). This was definitely a labor of love and a stimulating and enjoyable project that taught me so much about the field.”
