Fort Lewis College will be the new home of the Western States School of Banking (WSSB). The move means the two-year banking management program will be held on campus each summer beginning in June 2016. The WSSB is taught by nationally recognized faculty, which will now include some Fort Lewis College professors.
Fort Lewis College President Dene Thomas and FLC School of Business Administration Dean Paul McGurr pushed for the WSSB to come to campus. They worked with WSSB Executive Director Gigi Baty to make this new partnership a reality.
“I am thrilled to administer WSSB’s exceptional curriculum,” says Director Baty, “designed for the industry’s best and brightest, and am confident that the move to Fort Lewis College in Durango will benefit all parties involved.”
“The Fort Lewis College School of Business Administration is a strong business school,” says President Thomas. “Bringing a fine school of banking to campus was a natural fit, one that we feel will benefit communities across the West.”
Since 1974 FLC is one of the few undergraduate-only business schools to hold accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB), the international accrediting body for business schools. Only a small percentage of business schools around the world earn AACSB accreditation.
To be eligible to attend the Western States School of Banking, applicants must be employed as an officer or in a supervisory capacity at a financial institution or in a state or federal agency which supervises financial institutions, have at least one year of experience in banking or equivalent work, or have completed one year of university courses.
