"For the students, by the students."
In 1999, Fort Lewis College students passed a referendum to construct a facility that would be dedicated to student recreation and activities. Students emphasized that the facility be designed energy efficient with sustainable materials. Their commitment was rewarded with the construction of the Student Life Center, an award winning facility.
The Student Life Center is a $7.5 million facility that opened in 2001. The SLC was designed to promote physical and social wellness among the community of Fort Lewis College. The building contains places to exercise, play, meet, learn, and relax. Student representatives were an integral part of the planning, goal setting, and design process.
The Student Life Center houses the Department of Recreational Services.
