Wishes in the Sky
SEP
26
Join us for Wishes in the Sky, a thoughtful and uplifting event dedicated to raising awareness fo r suicide prevention. On the evening of September 26th, we will gather at the Peace Park to honor and remember those we have lost, support those who are struggling, and inspire hope within our community. As the sun sets, participants will write their wishes, messages of hope, or words of remembrance on special wish papers. These papers will then be lit and set afloat into the sky, creating a beautiful and symbolic display of light and hope. This collective act will serve as a beacon of support and a reminder that no one is alone. The event will include a brief program with heartfelt speeches, moments of reflection, and community support. We invite you to bring your loved ones and join us in this meaningful ceremony of unity and remembrance. Together, let’s illuminate the night sky with our wishes and strengthen our commitment to preventing suicide and supporting mental health. For more information, please contact wellpac@fortlewis.edu .
Manny Wheeler: Making Navajo Star Wars
SEP
26
Manuelito "Manny" Wheeler (Diné), former Executive Director of the Navajo Nation Museum, will share about the creative journey and multi-year process of bringing to life Star Wars: A New Hope ( Anaa': Siih Náhásdlii), which is the first major motion picture ever to have been translated into the Navajo language. Manny reached out to LucasFilms for 16 years before finally receiving a response in 2012 and an eventual "green-light" to move forward with the Navajo-dub version that features the talents of nearly 70 Diné voice actors. At 7:30pm, following Manny's presentation, the Center of Southwest Studies will host an outdoor screening of Star Wars: A New Hope ( Anaa': Siih Náhásdlii) on the courtyard between the Center and Community Concert Hall. Popcorn and chairs will be provided, or bring your own and dress as your favorite character! Both the pre-screening talk and film are free and open to the public.

Farewell Celebration for Jeff Dupont
SEP
26
Join the FLC staff, faculty, and students to celebrate and say farewell to Jeff Dupont, Dean of Student Engagement, as we thank him for his 18 years of service at Fort Lewis College. Come by Skyhawk Station Courtyard during the event for refreshments, sign your name to a farewell gift, and thank Jeff for all his service. Please enjoy this excerpt from Steve Schwartz, Interim President, on Jeff's years of service: Jeff’s dedication to student well-being has been evident since joining FLC. From his early days as Director of Recreation to his most recent role as Dean of Students, Jeff has consistently prioritized our students' needs. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Jeff worked closely with administrators and his team to keep Fort Lewis College open while many institutions nationwide closed their doors. Most recently, after years of efforts on Jeff’s part, the FLC Health Center became an accredited Colorado Medicaid provider. Furthermore, he solidified a partnership with Denver Indian Health & Family Services (DIHFS) to increase access to health services for Indigenous students, and this fall, for the first time, the DIHFS mobile clinic will visit our campus.
