FCNS Scholarships for Post-baccalaureate STEM Majors pursuing Teacher Licensure
FCNS is intentionally designed for the professional preparation of teachers who have the skills and experienced to be successful in schools in the Four Corners region. As you may know, like many low income and rural areas of the US, our Four Corners region is at a near crisis level for recruiting and retaining highly qualified math and science teachers. Due to these needs, our program awards scholarships to STEM students that want to become teachers and who will begin and hopefully pursue their careers in high-needs schools in rural and diverse communities. Program activities and academic preparation will equip teachers to bring equity and understanding to the classroom, while acknowledging how factors from outside the classroom may still impact student learning.
Students admitted into the MAE: Teacher Licensure program are eligible for this scholarship during their first year in the MAE program. Scholarship recipients will benefit from extra training, networking with other scholars, mentoring opportunities with other teachers, and access to additional classroom resources. In turn, scholarship recipients are expected to teach two years in a high-need school district. Failure to do so will result in needing to pay back the scholarship.
